the smallest things can help improve the world.

the smallest things can help improve the world.

No, I'm not about to  tell you all the faults the world has, I can't because they are still the process of inventing more.  However I have noticed one of the simple little everyday things we take for granted which when you put some thought into it explains a heck of alot.

Are you ready?  Color television.  Yeah I know what your thinking, has Chipmunk gone bonkers?  Nope, just read on.

When I was a child all the television shows were black and white, so on a Saturday morning after having my cereal when I turned on my favorite shows which ran the gamit from cartoons, to westerns I would sit in front of the televsion and watch, but when I turned and looked out the window, there it was a world in color.  So lets recap.  On my screen  heros were easily recognized as  fiction because there was no real world color to convince me otherwise.  I knew real from entertainment it was common sense easy to figure out even for a child.  The children today aren't as lucky.  They watch what they believe is the real world, they watch the actors come back to life over and over again and why not it certainly looks real enough, with no variation to what is out  side their windows.

That is why it is so important for parents and guardians to take the time to teach children, especially little ones the difference between that which is considered entertainment and the real world where the unfortunate victim doesn't come back to life in a rerun.

Perhaps if we can take the time to teach our children this so simple yet so valuable lesson there just might be a little less violence in the world.

Job hunting the new era

Job hunting the new era

I hope that the following will bring a smile to your face and  if you are one of the millions who are out of work know it's not your fault.  So enjoy and  have a good belly laugh !!!!

Job Hunting- only the strong will survive

That sounds like a line from some reality show doesn't it ?  I am seriously thinking about starting up a show like that. I am like many others in this country out of work due to no fault of their own, it’s just the economy. So I have been on numerous job interviews. No luck . Here are some of the quandaries.

I have been told that I am very talented, but they hire someone else; ok should I be less talented? Put that into the resume.

I have been told that I have a impressive resume, but they hire someone else; should I have a less impressive resume? Change the resume.

I have been told that I present a very professional appearance, but they hire someone else; ok should I look less professional? Put that into the resume.

I have been told I don’t have enough experience, they hire someone else; ok pump up the resume.

I have been told by one interviewer during a group interview session that years ago he/she would have to hunt for job applicants, but now we have to beg for the jobs! Now if you have read any of my articles before you know what I did with that little bit of information - right into file # 13!

I have been complimented on my knowledge of my profession, but they hired someone else; ok get dumb,  put that into the resume.

I have been in a interview situation where it was apparent that I was older than the rest of the applicants, they hire someone else; no you don’t think that in a country where age discrimination is against the law that could possibly be a factor in the decision do you?

By the way all the job interviews have been for the same line of work, just though I would mention that little FYI.

So here is my new resume:

Dear Human Resources,

I am a hard worker but not too hard, I am talented but not talented enough as to make the other workers feel insecure. I have experience but if that is a problem I can act dumb so as not to be worth the advertised salary for the position for which I am applying because you had no intention of paying the advertised salary to begin with.  I have a professional appearance, but that can be modified if someone feels that looking like a professional is too correct I would be happy to come in wearing wrinkled clothes and unpolished shoes, while popping gum every two to three minutes.

I am excellent on the computer, however I am willing to increase speed and for go the proof reading of my work before handing it in so I can multi task even faster and make as many mistakes as my colleagues therefore increasing the insurance liability for the company.

I am willing to have a complete plastic surgery make over in order to diminish the reality of my age in order to impress the company, however with the make over I would erase the lines that represent all the experience, talent, hard work, professionalism and life’s other general lessons that only someone who has lived through them and knows how to face the difficulties that arise and whose answers are not readily found on face book.

I am looking forward to hearing from you regarding an interview, since I feel my resume covers every aspect that you could possibly need but if you are so arrogant as to think as a proud American I am begging for a job, then please put this somewhere where the sun don’t shine.

Respectfully

Thunking outside the X Box

Thunking outside the X Box

The other day I decided to take both my step grand children ages ten and eight to the book store.  On the way to the store  I told the children just how lucky they were to be able to be in a country where buying books and having the ability to just get into  a car and go places was considered a everyday thing.  This conversation brought up the horrible devestation in Haiti caused by the recent earth quake.  Both of the children told me how sad it was and that  Haitia was a poor country.

I then asked them what was meant by the word "poor".  To my astonishment they simply repeated, "Grandma it's a poor country".

So I repeated. "What makes it a poor country"?

Again both answered in unison; only now they were obviously becoming irritated  that I should want to know what the meaning of "poor "was.

"Grandma, we told you it's a poor country"!

I asked them what their teacher who  had told them of the earthquake had explained about the meaning of the word "poor country".  My grand daughter very irritated by my questions answered  to my surprise, " Our teachers just said it was a poor country so stop asking us dumb questions"!  In other words, your boring us.

As you  can imagine, I was floored. Why didn't the  teachers provide any logical age appropriate explanation of the situation?   Ignoring the future ramifications of teaching children to merely brush aside that which does not affect them personally.

I began to explain to them; above  their groans and verbal expressions of discontent just what the definition of a "poor country" was.

After  dropping them off at home I drove away thinking are we as adults  doing a great injustice to our children by making their lives just a little too easy.  Often it is easier for the adult to give  a one word put-it-aside answer than it is to take the time to teach the child to research the complete answer.

Oh wait that's what the teachers are supposed to do, right?
